Sixth South Asian Regional Conference Of Dermatology (SARCD VI)

The Sixth SARCD took place in Kathmandu from November 13-15, 2009. Rt. Hon. President of Nepal Dr. Ram Baran Yadav inaugurated the Sixth SARCD and Seventh SODVELONCON at the Regal Hall, Hotel Yak and Yeti, Kathmandu. The President Dr. Ram Baran Yadav addressed the gathering and gave encouraging messages for the successes for the conference. Prof. Guenter Burg of Switzerland, Prof. Gurmohan Singh of India and Prof. Terence Ryan of UK were given honorary membership of SODVELON. Late Dr. W.D.H.Perera was awarded Life Time Achievement award for his contributions to SARAD. Prof. Anil Kumar Jha was felicitated on the occasion. The conference was held for 3 days 13th to 15th November. Delegates from various countries participated during the conference. One new addition has taken place in the SARAD body with the participation from Maldives.

Minutes of the executive body meeting held on 13th November, 2009 at Hotel Yak & Yeti, Kathmandu, Nepal on the occasion of 6th SARCD and 7th SODVELONCON.

  1. Dr. Badr Dhanani, President, SARAD called to order. He welcomed all the executive body members of SARAD.
  2. Prof. Atif Kazmi read out the minutes of the executive body meeting held at Lahore, Pakistan on the occasion of 5th SARCD and 27th PAD conference of dermatology from 14th to 16th November 2007.
  3. Dr. Suresh Joshipura from India wanted to endorse whatever Dr. Sacchidanand from India had mentioned regarding Teledermatology.
  4. Dr. Mahesh Shah mentioned that SODVELON has not decided about the fellowship and exchange programme.
  5. Prof Anil Kumar Jha suggested to have a common letter head with common website and common email.
  6. Dr. Vijay Bahadur Rajbhandari requested that the official emblem of SAARC should be included along with the common email of SARAD rather than giving individual email address of various executive committee members.
  7. Dr. Badr Dhanani mentioned cyberspace should be utilized.
  8. Dr. Badr Dhanani inquired with Dr. Suresh Joshipura about a dermatology/cosmetology conference of SARAD being held in India without permission of SARAD.
  9. Dr. Hari Narayan Gupta presented the treasurer's report. He mentioned that the dollar account and Nepalese rupees account are operated separated.

The SARAD account contains US Dollar 3179.51 and Nepalese Rupees 8,23,670.43 as per that date. He also said that the ILDS subscription fees of USD 200 was paid for 2008-2009.

  1. Membership fees was paid by the following societies:

PAD – USD 100 (2009-2011)

BDS – USD 300 (2005-2011)

SLAD – USD 200 (2007 – 2011)

SODVELON – USD 100 (2009-2011)

Dr. Nujha Mohammad paid USD 100 as membership fees of Maldives but as per the constitution for any society with <10members no membership fees should be levied, hence the amount was returned.

IADVL has yet to pay the membership fees for 2009 – 2011.

  1. Prof. Kazmi promised to deposit the 50% of the savings from SARCD after going through the constitution of SARAD.
  2. Dr. Suresh Joshipura mentioned that ILDS fellowship program is very useful.
  3. Dr. Janaka Akarawita stated that there are six teaching centers of excellence identified in Colombo and an exchange program of SARAD students can be started. This was discussed at length by all the executive committee members and decided to finalize in the next General body meeting.
  4. Prof. Anil Kumar Jha requested to use the new website for Teledermatology as well.
  5. Dr. Badr Dhanani mentioned that all members should give their mobile numbers on the letter head.
  6. The 7th SARCD was decided to be held at Bangladesh in November, 2011.
  7. Prof. Anil Kumar Jha raised a query about why last executive committee meeting was not held. Dr. Badr Dhanani said that due to visa problem the meeting could not be held.
  8. Election of new executive committee members of SARAD (2009-2011) was held.

  1. All the executive committee members requested Dr. Nuzha to organize the next executive committee meeting at Maldives.
  2. Dr. Suresh Joshipura requested for support from SARAD countries about holding of various international events in India in the coming years. All members of SARAD promised him that they would give full support/help for conducting these events in India.
  3. Prof Atif Kazmi thanked all members for attending this meeting during the 6th SARCD.                                                               

N.B: After the executive committee meeting General Body Meeting of SARAD was organized and the minutes were discussed with the participants. These minutes were then endorsed by them.
